The new Panasonic 65” AX900 and 85″ SX850 are the first consumer TVs shipped intending to be compliant with EOTF (gamma) BT.1886. They are on the way and will be initially available on the Panasonic site and in Best Buy next month.
Here are the Factory calibration tips we presented at the press conference:
Tip 1 – The preset “Professional 2” is preprogrammed to become ISF Night, and defaults to a gamma actually named BT.1886 – “Professional 1” is intended to be used to calibrate ISF Day mode.
Tip 2 – Changing local area dimming settings will impact gamma – if you alter the settings the BT.1886 will DISAPPEAR from the menu since compliance is pre-programmed with the preset local area dimming value!
Tip 3 – If you want to fine tune the gamma with the 10 point menu ONLY USE FULL FIELD test patterns – window patterns should not be used for gamma with any local area dimming LEDs
These units calibrate extremely well – our congratulations to Panasonic engineering!
